the Pink Dahlia is finally completed...

Here's the finished version (I hope!) of the Pink Dahlia. Just gotta leave it alone!

Here's where I started from after removing some color from the center and then brightening it up with Transparent Yellow.

This is what the dang dahlia looks like after adding some Permanent Rose and some Thalo Blue to the mix and just starting to work on darkening the center.

Adding some darks to the center helps and finding the "home" for all the petals...

I also added a Transparent Yellow wash over the background, helps to settle down the jumpiness. I thought the background was too jarring for the dahlia.

Now I can start on my next Friday Class image and also the next Filoi workshop coming in July!
Thanks for stopping by....

Thanks Liana. This dahlia grows in my backyard and originally came from my grandma's garden. I appreciate your comments...

Guy, this Dhalia painting is gorgeous! My husband and I used to plant anywhere from 75 to 100 Dahlias in our garden each summer for many years.

I am so in awe of articulate watercolorists Guy. I'm just at the alla prima stage with this medium. It may be as far as I go? The dahlia caught my attention, because I have a waterlily reference photo I've been putting off painting. A painting of it requires your skills, not mine. Lovely work. Well worth the time you put into it.

Thanks Laura - I just love them myself! There's so many varieties and colors - they are amazing. This is a little pink one that originally came from my grandma's garden, so it's a very cherished dahlia.
